Pixels & Pints in Newington, October 2, 2008

Information
Place: Bertucci's, Newington, CT 2929 Berlin Turnpike Newington, CT 06111
Time: Thursday, October 2 at 7:00 for camaraderie, and 7:30 showtime
Cost: Cash Bar and free pizza if you bring images. $5.00 if you come empty-handed.

Directions >>

Join us for the first Pixels and Pints of fall 2008, a fun evening for to kick back and see what each other did all summer.

The pizza is free courtesy of CTASMP if you provide between five and eight new images to show. But if you just want to watch, it only costs five dollars for all the pizza you can eat, regardless of whether you are an ASMP member or not. Just bring enough cash to cover your beverages and enjoy the camaraderie. If you aren't a member, it's a time to see what CTASMP is all about in a casual, relaxed, environment.

Some photographers show their fun projects, others their vacation shots and some their latest client work. For some it's architecture, others weddings or commercial work, fashion, advertising, sports products, and fine or not-so-fine art.

So choose five images that you haven't shown at a P&P event before, put them in jpeg, sRGB and resize them to no larger than 1000 megapixels in any direction. Images should be renamed with your initials and in numeric sequence (e.g. jw01, jw02, etc.) then email them to jake@jakewyman.com by September 30. If you decide at the last minute to come, bring your prepared images with you by 6:40 on the 2nd in order to get them loaded before showtime.

If a group of ASMP members in your area wants to host a Pixels and Pints evening, contact Jake Wyman.

See you there!

ASMP Professional development seminar, Taking Control of Your Career

Information
Place: Yale University, Linsly-Chittendon Hall, 63 High Street
Time: TBA
Cost: ASMP members $30: Non-members $60; Students $20

Past ASMP president Judy Hermann will present Taking Control of Your Career at Yale University's Linsley-Chittendon Hall, Monday, October 27.

Judy Hermann of Hermann+Starke, challenged everyone at ASMP's SB2 to,  "get a grip and not just manage changes in our industry, but embrace them. Take control before they overpower and take control of us." She told us to "have a clear understanding of our value and our competitive edge."

"The most successful people are those who are good at implementing Plan B," says Hermann. "They are the ones who follow Plan A, but when the industry and the market begin to shift, we need to be ready to shift our businesses accordingly."

Judy Hermann will energize you and get you excitied about discovering, embracing, and maybe even be on the leading edge of changes in our industry. At the very least you will learn the importance of  adjusting your business to meet the ever changing demands of your clients and the consequences of not adusting.  But watch out, her energy level and excitement is contagious!

By the end of the evening you will know how to  --

  • Get yourself moving in the right direction
  • Complete an honest analysis of your career
  • Prioritize your goals and activities
  • Exploit your strengths, minimize your weaknesses
  • Anticipate and successfully navigate change
  • Case studies show you how this really works

Go to the ASMP website and register now to hold your place.
